RESEARCH CAMPUS----Job Details:General Note:The Institute for
Geophysics at The University of Texas at Austin (UTIG) invites
applications for a postdoctoral research position to study methane
hydrates in geological systems. UTIG is one of the three research
units of the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of
Texas at Austin. Scientists and students at UTIG conduct
expeditionary research in Earth Science in all parts of the world,
and are also involved in planetary missions and climate modeling.
These research projects produce large data sets and require
computational analysis and visualization.Your skills will make a

will be part of a research team composed of geoscientists and
engineers analyzing the material behavior of both hydrate-bearing
porous media and permafrost. This individual will help define the
experimental direction of the Pressure Core Center at The
University of Texas at Austin. We look for a creative individual
with a knack for experimental analysis and a passion for
quantitative analysis of flow and geomechanics of ice-bearing
systems. This position is for one year and potential second year
extension with satisfactory progress. For more information, please
go to: RESPONSIBILITIES
- This individual will explore the petrophysical state and
evolution of hydrate reservoirs and permafrost through
geomechanical and/or geochemical analysis of conventional and
pressurized core samples.
- Work collaboratively with scientists from a multi-disciplinary
team composed of geoscientists and engineers from the University of
Texas, Sandia, NETL, USGS, and other international
institutions.
- Present results to the scientific community and broader
public.
- Publish results in peer-reviewed journals.REQUIRED
QUALIFICATIONSQualified individuals should have a Ph.D. in
Geosciences, Petroleum Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a
related field at the time of appointment.PERFERRED
QUALIFICATIONSAbility to perform independent laboratory research
and collaborate effectively. Experience in high pressure equipment
and experimental analysis. Passion for quantitative analysis of
geomechanical properties and ability and enthusiasm to be part of a
multi-disciplinary effort.SALARY RANGE$72,000WORKING CONDITIONS
