Job Description:

Under general supervision, perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic systems, wiring, fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment; and perform related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Determine the existence of electrical hazards and problems. Safely isolate, ground, and prepare circuits and electrical apparatus to enable repairs.

• Have knowledge of and use the required personal protective equipment to protect against arc flash and shock.

• Troubleshoot and maintain motor control centers, motor start circuits, control loops, generators, high voltage switchgear, protective relaying, and related equipment.

• Read/interpret engineering drawings and manuals to install, calibrate and maintain electrical apparatus. Work from complex engineering and manufacturers drawings or manuals to complete projects and assigned work.

• Install electrical conduit, pull, and terminate wiring.

• Ability to use electrical/electronic testing equipment to such as multi-meters, ammeters, meg/ohm meters, high potential testers, oscilloscopes, digital probes to troubleshoot and repair equipment.

• Use hand and power tools related to the electrical trades.

• Install and maintain control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, circuit breakers, and control panels.

• Install and maintain drive systems such as variable frequency drives, eddy current, and DC drives. Install and maintain programmable logic control systems (PLC). Interpret and/or modify PLC control logic, as necessary. Install and calibrate pressure, temperature, flow, and level controls.

• Observe installed systems to detect hazards and determine the need for adjustments or modifications.

• Design layout work on panels, set up complex control systems, interpret and alter engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.

• Repair or replace faulty electrical equipment, including electronic controls, meters, outlets, and panels.

• Effectively communicate problems and solutions to resolve electrical problems.

• Supervise and participate in the on-the-job training of Utility Maintenance Person as needed. Use computerized maintenance system to retrieve and enter information.

• Assist in establishing and maintaining scheduled maintenance programs for plant equipment. Maintain records, update drawings, and develop safety procedures.

• Observe safe work practices and ensure work does not endanger others. Perform other duties as required

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Graduation from high school, or general education diploma or trade school preferred.

• Five (5) years of experience in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment with related training. Relevance of experience will be determined based on similar equipment, procedures, and job functions.

• Electrician Apprentice License preferred, but not required.

• Considerable knowledge of electrical systems, including high-voltage switchgear, protective relaying, grounding procedures, personal protective equipment requirements, safety procedures, and electrical test equipment.

• Good knowledge of electrical codes and regulations.

• Knowledge of electronics and instrumentation.

• Ability to use engineering drawings, schematics, and service manuals to troubleshoot, install, and repair equipment.

• Ability to perform arithmetical and algebraic calculations.

• Ability to maintain records and report on work accomplished.

• Knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in general maintenance work. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, good verbal, and written communications skills.

• Ability to perform strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions.

• Ability to work unscheduled hours during emergency and/or unusual situations (24 hour/ 7 days' week).

• Knowledge of computer hardware with programming basics highly desirable. Considerable knowledge of the approved methods, practices, code requirements and safety standards, including equipment, tools, and materials of the trade.

• Ability to work effectively with others. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Physically able to push, pull, lift, bend, climb, kneel, twist, squat, crawl and use hands/forearms repetitively and frequently.

• Ability to move around for up to 12 hours per day.

• Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, swing stages and man lifts at various heights frequently.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Moderate to elevated risk of exposure to unusual elements.

• Moderate to elevated risk of safety precautions.

• Moderate to high exposure to production environment.
