TPWD MISSION
To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas
and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation
opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future
generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Lead Ranger, this position performs
advanced (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and
maintenance work. Responsible for the proper operation,
maintenance, and repair of the water treatment plant. Responsible
for regulatory compliance in all utility operations to include
completion of required forms and reports as required by the Texas
Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Texas Parks and
Wildlife Department (TPWD). Performs water laboratory testing
procedures and general maintenance and cleaning of water
facilities. Responsible for all phases of maintenance and repairs
to other park facilities, equipment, grounds, and electrical and
plumbing systems utilizing equipment such as hand tools, power
tools, mowers, tractors and other machinery. Responsible for
preparing reports, revenue collection and accounting. Provides
visitor services and enforcement of park rules and regulations.
Available for emergency call outs as needed. Works under minimal
supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative
and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Complies with Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and
procedures.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from high school or GED.
Experience:
Four years of facility, equipment or grounds maintenance.
Licensure:
Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a
valid State driver's license;
Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a
class D Water and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission
on Environmental Quality (TCEQ);
Must possess or be able to obtain, within three years of
employment, a class C Water and Wastewater license issued by the
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ.
NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and
maintaining required licenses and compliance with the Texas
Commission on Environmental Quality's (TCEQ) Criminal Conviction
Guidelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Experience in the repair of facilities, grounds and vehicles;
Experience in customer service, planning, developing and
implementing interpretation/education programs;
Experience in recruiting, training and supervising volunteer
groups.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of construction, repair and maintenance techniques;
Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry,
janitorial and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks;
Knowledge of resource management principles;
Knowledge of public water and wastewater systems;
Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;
Skill in effective verbal and written communication;
Skill in quality customer service in a courteous and professional
manner;
Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain
saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical
equipment;
Skill in using personal computers with word processing and
spreadsheet software;
Skill in basic monthly report writing;
Skill in training others;
Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions;
Ability to operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment
systems in accordance with TCEQ guidelines;
Ability to develop and implement maintenance and repair
programs;
Ability to perform technical and complex maintenance related
functions requiring lifting moderately heavy objects (tools,
equipment, and materials);
Ability to perform physical labor such as cleaning of buildings,
the operation of lawn maintenance equipment, tractors and litter
collection;
Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and
materials up to 50 lbs.;
Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety
program.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Required to work in a public park with overnight camping;
Required to work 40 hours per week, including flexible schedules
with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and days off other
than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;
Required to work long schedules during peak visitation demand;
Required to adjust to changing schedules;
Required to respond to emergency situations;
Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather
conditions;
Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and
materials up to 50 lbs.;
May be required to operate a State vehicle;
Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;
Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and
safety procedures;
Non-smoking work environment in State buildings and vehicles.
